Breaking the Cycle: How to Stop Self-Sabotage

Breaking the Cycle: How to Stop Self-Sabotage

Hey there, friend! I want to talk to you about something super important today: self-sabotage. You know, it’s when things are going really well in your life, and suddenly, you start to mess it up all by yourself. Have you ever felt like that? I know I have!

Let me share a little story. I have this friend, and we often make plans together. But sometimes, those plans get canceled at the last minute. When that happens, my brain goes to some dark places. I start to think, "Oh no, what’s wrong? Is it me?" I remember times in the past when things went wrong, and I panic. It’s almost like I’m waiting for the “aha moment,” thinking that something bad is going to happen just because things are good right now.

Why do we do this? Sometimes, we’re scared of things going wrong because of what happened before. We think, “I just know it! Everything is going well, so something bad is bound to happen!” It’s like waiting for someone to pull the rug out from under you. But we have to stop that cycle!

Here’s what I learned: the first step is to recognize when you’re doing it. I had a friend who pointed it out to me. At first, I was defensive, but then I realized they were right. I started thinking about why I felt this way and what I could learn from it.

It’s super important to give yourself permission to understand your feelings and your past. Think of your past experiences as lessons, not as chains holding you back. When we learn from these lessons, we can move forward stronger than before.

Here’s something cool: you can elevate yourself to a new version of you! You’ll learn to tell the difference between real threats and things that are just in your head. And even if you face tough situations, you'll know you have what it takes to get through them.

I’ve been in tough spots before. People often ask me how I made it through because they think I should have given up. But I knew I didn’t belong in that dark place. I started chasing my dreams and realized I could do it! I kept going, and that’s what I want to share with you: once you know what keep going gets you, you keep going!

Now, I’ve got some journal prompts for you to explore this part of yourself:

1. What are some good things happening in your life right now? Write them down!
2. Can you think of a time when you started to self-sabotage? What happened?
3. How did that make you feel? Write about your feelings.
4. What lessons can you learn from your past experiences?
5. What steps can you take to move forward instead of looking back?

Remember, every time things seem to repeat, try to see them as new experiences. Holding onto old feelings can weigh you down, and that’s not good for you! You’re strong enough to let go and move on.

Believe me, I know how hard it can be. I've been there, but I never wanted to stay stuck. So, if you find yourself in a tough spot, just remember, “once you know what keep going gets you, you keep going!” You’ve got this!
